A Miracle Drug Has Monstrous
Side Effects in OBSIDIAN.

Samera Entertainment goes inside this intense creature feature from Midnight Releasing.

Coming to VOD, the quest for vanity leads to horrifying consequences in OBSIDIAN, one of the latest selections from Midnight Releasing.

Jack Carre (Henry Frost), is a permanently disfigured sad sack with a tragic past. Longing for a return to normalcy, Jack volunteers for a clinical trial of OBSIDIAN, a tissue regeneration medication with the power to restore Jack's former looks. Along with a few other guinea pigs, Jack tries the miracle drug for himself under the watchful eye of brilliant pharmacologist, Dr. James Walsh (Frank R. Wilson). Soon thereafter, Jack and his fellow volunteers experience extreme side effects from the experimental serum. As things get steadily worse, Jack must face his biggest fears. By the end of this test, there's no telling who will survive.

Erica Summers writes and directs this terrifying body horror thriller, and found it one of the most rewarding experiences of her life.

"Obsidian, at times, nearly tore me apart. Despite having made other independent features, I have never been challenged to the extent this film challenged me before. It made me doubt myself.  But despite it all, seeing the vision brought to life after years of working on it, it re-ignited my absolute passion for horror filmmaking and showed me that something is only a limitation if you allow it to be."

Obsidian also stars Olivia Peck, Hick Cheramie, David McMahon, Rainey Moone, Alana Rose, and Tom Proctor. It was a harsh struggle for Erica Summers to transition this project from script to screen, but it's clear that the effort was all worth it in the end.

"I had to persevere through blatant sexism, budgetary issues, personality conflicts, and pandemics to get this film made. It was a journey that took seven years to complete but I feel like my unadulterated concept can now be shared with independent horror loving audiences everywhere."

-- Erica Summers

Erica's dedication to Obsidian was validated upon the film's festival run. At the Thing in the Basement Horror Festival, Obsidian won Best Gore, Best Editing, and Best Feature respectively. Also, at this year's Film Festival NY, Erica Summers won Best Director of a horror, and Henry Frost won Best Actor of a horror. Now you can witness the horror firsthand when Obsidian is released this September from Midnight Releasing.

"Obsidian is a special film about what it means to face reality under the oppression of the demons in our heads. It's as psychologically gripping as it is visually frightening."
