The Story of Fright Night comes ICON: THE ROBERT ENGLUND STORY, a feature-length exploration into the expansive career of one horror's most unforgettable faces. Samera Entertainment is honored to bring attention to this exciting documentary film.
Robert Englund has spent the last four decades scaring audiences out of their wits with his unique style. While best known as the psychotic dream stalker Freddy Kreuger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, Englund has provided his talents to countless other horror classics including Tobe Hooper's The Mangler, Wishmaster, Urban Legend, 2001 Maniacs, and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. And among those credits, he has amassed numerous guest roles on television and has lent his voice to many animated shows.
ICON is live on IndieGoGo and the filmmakers need your help to get this documentary off the ground. They are less than $10,000 away from reaching their goal with only five days to go. All donors will be entitled to a wide variety of perks for their contribution. To be part of this project be sure to check out the campaign at:
IndieGoGo for ICON: The Robert Englund Story - Documentary
ICON will be loaded with multiple interviews from iconic mavens of horror such as Bill Moseley, Eli Roth, Corey Taylor, Ken Kirzinger, Lin Shaye, Heather Langenkamp, Michael Berryman, Andrew Divoff and R.A. Mihailoff. It will also include up close and personal interviews with Englund's friends and colleagues. And of course, Robert Englund will sit down for an interview himself.
Lifelong Robert Englund fan Gary Smart writes, produces, a co-directs this stunning retrospective that will go beyond Englund’s influence on the horror genre. ICON also plans to explore the fandom of other actors who have portrayed iconic horror villains as well, and how cinema has created such memorable characters in the vein as Robert Englund’s own Freddy Krueger!
“If anyone deserves this sort of recognition, then it's Robert Englund,” Gary Smart says. "He has been a mainstay of horror cinema for nearly 40 years and without question has risen to the ranks in horror alongside Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee. All of us at Cult Screenings are so excited to be celebrating this Icon’s career.”
As with all Cult Screenings documentaries, ICON will be completely fan-funded, with contributors entitled to many perks including signed posters, copies of the Blu-ray and DVD, producer credits, pins and much more. Without your help, this project won’t be possible!
The campaign ends on June 30 and the filmmakers are getting close to their targeted budget.
